Former pop star Gary Glitter has been found guilty of historical child abuse against three young girls between 1975 and 1980.

The 70 year old ex-singer - originally known as Paul Gadd - was convicted of attempted rape, four counts of indecent assault and having sex with a girl under the age of 13.

Gadd denied all the charges but was found guilty at Southwark Crown Court, London today and will remain in custody until 27th February.

The court heard how the former singer tried to rape a victim under the age of 10 and how he crept into her bed.

She told the court room how she felt "dirty and ashamed", and only escaped by moving away - wrapping herself in sheets and blankets.

The trial heard how one victim had locked herself in the bathroom after drunken Gadd had fallen asleep in the bed.

The 70 year-old was acquited on two counts of indecent assault and one count of administering drug or other thing in order to facilitate sexual intercourse.

The jury were considering their verdict yesterday before today's conviction, Gadd is the first person to be arrested under Operation Yewtree.
